Z-lig

Synthetic ligament (UHMWPE) composed of free fibers, offering excellent mechanical resistance, especially within the active zone of the joint. This specific architecture is designed to meet in vivo biomechanical constraints and promotes fibroblast colonization for optimal tissue integration.

It enables multiple ligament reconstructions in dogs and cats, including cranial and caudal cruciate ligaments, elbow luxation, shoulder and tarsal instabilities.

The advantages of free fibers

Free fibers offer two major advantages.1. Mechanical resistance:In the active zone of the implant (Z-lig®), the residual fatigue resistance (combined tension, flexion, and torsion) of free fibers is significantly higher than all other tested structures (12 million cycles), whether woven, knitted, or braided, which degrade more or less rapidly (structure elongation) and release debris into the joint before mechanical failure.Free fibers produce no particle debris, and elongation after this testing phase was approximately 2%. 2. Promotes fibroblast colonization and growth of new collagen aligned with the direction of tensionThe architecture of free fibers is porous and conducive to fibroblast infiltration (unlike braided structures, which are dense, opaque, and minimally permeable). When a healthy remnant of the cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) is present, it should be preserved as much as possible, as it facilitates fibroblast regrowth and the development of collagen oriented along the direction of tension.

3 years after surgery with Z-lig®

Recap of Our Training on Using Z-lig® for Cranial Cruciate Ligament ReconstructionThe 6th of April, participants had the opportunity to:Discover the strong legacy of STIF – Pet Care in human surgery and its expertise in veterinary orthopedics.Explore the evolution of our free fibers technology, specifically adapted for veterinary surgery.Learn more about current and potential applications, and practice the cranial cruciate ligament reconstruction technique in dogs. In the morning, participants focused on theory and discussion around the fundamental principles.In the afternoon, hands-on work on anatomical specimens: participants performed a cranial cruciate ligament reconstruction in dogs, carefully reviewing each technical step to master all the essential aspects—especially the details that optimize post-operative recovery and ensure long-term stability of the results.A warm thank you to our instructors, Drs.
